Inside the Cloister Hotel at Sea Island
From the Spanish Lounge to the Solarium, the interior of the Cloister Hotel at Sea Island is simply gorgeous. The architecture, layout and decorations create a unique feeling of beach luxury.
The Cloister Chapel and Cloister Garden
Hidden off to the side off the Cloister Hotel is the Cloister Chapel and the Cloister Garden. Both are surrounded by luscious greenery and trees.
Sunset at the Lodge
Sea Island's Lodge Hotel and Golf Course is actually on St. Simons Island. It can be found on the southwestern tip of the island, which makes it a great location to catch a sunset, like I did this cold December night.
Hidden Gems at the Cloister Hotel
Many visitors to Sea Island's Cloister Hotel miss some of the most interesting interior sites the resort has to offer. Sea Island was the host of the 2004 meeting of the G8 (group of eight). The original round table that the presidents of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States sat at during the forum is on display in a room in the Cloister. Also hidden away is a library and grand ballroom.
Sunset at Sea Island’s Cloister Hotel
Sea Island's Cloister Hotel is a 5-star resort that sits on the southwest side of Sea Island. The hotel has sweeping views of the marshland and Black Banks river that separates Sea Island from St. Simons Island. The resort has ball rooms, a chapel, tennis courts, a spa and pool, solarium, garden, library, and two exquisite restaurants, The River Bar and The Georgian. The interior hall, named the Colonial Lounge is a 4 story room that impresses any visitor.
Ocean Forest at Midnight
Ocean Forest is a private community and golf course located on the northeastern tip of Sea Island. Ocean Forest's golf course is rated in the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golf magazine. I arrived at Ocean Forrest just after midnight to capture the Club House, cottages, beach and golf course.
Exploring Sea Island’s Beach Club
The Beach Club has plenty to keep its guest entertained: baby, lap, family and adult pools, shuffle board, volleyball, and a hot tub to name a few. I stopped by late one night to capture a few of these under a full moon.
The Spa at the Cloister
The Spa at the Cloister Hotel is a five-star spa and fitness center. The entrance is flanked by a lush koi pond followed by a lovely fountain. I arrived at the spa just in time to catch the full moon rising above the Spa's entrance.
The Beach Club Under a Full Moon
Sea Island's Beach Club is a renowned resort that provides access to five miles of Sea Island beach. The Beach Club has three pools that provide a cool haven during the hot Georgia sun. On this night, however, it was brightly lit by a full moon. It was the winter solstice and there was a total lunar eclipse. These two events had not coincided since 1638, so it was a historic night. It was also the perfect night to catch some shots of the Beach Club, the pools, the beach, and oh yeah, a total lunar eclipse. The moon was so bright many of these shots look like they were taken during the day. Only the night stars give an indication it's after dark.
